Pant Legs Base (“bottom” of purse)

From 8 ½” X 11” red cardstock, cut two pieces 3 ½” X 3 ½”

Score both 3 ½” square pieces at ½” on all sides. Cut the two vertical scores lines on opposing sides (top
edge and bottom edge. Note: You’ll make a total of 4 cuts, NOT 8) up to the intersection of the horizontal
score marks. Fold and glue to form a “short box”.  (see photos)  Repeat on second piece of 3 1/2" X 3 1/2"
cardstock.

Pant Legs

Cut one sheet of 8 ½” X 11” in half lengthwise for two finished pieces 4 ¼” X 11”. Note: If a decorative
sewn or rubberstamped edge will be added to the top of each pant leg, it will need to be done now. (See
photos for examples) Then, continue.

Score at 2 ½’, 5”, 7 ½”, and 10". Apply adhesive to the outside of the pants leg bottoms (the base or bottom
of the purse) and attach the pants legs onto the bottom or “base” (see photos below). Repeat all steps for
the second pant leg.

Suspenders

Cut two strips 3/4” X 11”. Apply decorative stitching with either a sewing machine or stamp a stitched
image along both edges of the suspenders. Set aside~these will be attached to the purse at final assembly.

Belt Loops

Cut a piece of red cardstock to ¾” X 2 ½”. Apply decorative stitching with a sewing machine or stamp a
stitched image along all edges of the belt loops. Fold the loop in half (to measure ¾” X 1 ¼”). Set aside
until you are ready to assemble all the pieces of the project.

Fur Trim

From white velveteen paper:  Cut a strip 1” X 11". Attach the strip to the bottom edge of each pant leg,
making sure that the velveteen paper’s seam meets near the edge of the seam on the pant’s leg. This is
important because when assembling, these seams will become the inside seam on the pant legs.

                 Assembling the purse

Apply adhesive on the inside top edge (in this description, the inside is where the paper seams are) of one
of the pants’ legs. Line it up with the other pant leg (remember to note which side is the inside) and press
together (see photo).

Belt Buckle

Note: A pre-made belt buckle can be used or you can make your own. Notice in the photos that one pair of
the Santa Pants has a buckle that was made with an ordinary soda pop-top tab. The second pair of pants
has a buckle made from a Sizzix die cut and a foil seal saved from a 5# can of coffee

Soda pop-top tab!                               Foil coffee can seal used in making the die cut buckle!

Slide a 16” length of black ribbon through the belt buckle. Apply adhesive to the inside of the black ribbon
and press it around the waistline of the pants approximately 1/4” from the top edge.

Add the belt loops (see photos for placement)
Suspenders
Add the suspenders to the purse by applying adhesive to the front side of one suspender at the bottom edge.
Attach this to the inside of the pant leg, near the waistline’s edge. Apply adhesive to the opposite end of
the suspender on the inside bottom edge. Bend the suspender slightly and attach it to the outside back edge
of the opposite pant leg. Placement should be near the top of the back pant leg (see photos)
